EFFECTS OF FRAYER MODEL INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES DEVELOPMENT TO ENHANCEENGLISH VOCABULARY LEARNING AND ENGLISH READING COMPREHENSION ABILITIESOF GRADE 9 STUDENTS

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to: 1) develop Frayer model instructional activities 2) compare the student’s abilities in English vocabulary learning before and after using Frayer model instructional activities, and 3) compare the student’s abilities in English reading comprehension before and after using Frayer model instructional activities. The sample were 24 ninth grade students in 2nd semester in academic year of 2021 at Triamudomsuksapattanakarn Chiangrai School, Chiang Rai, Thailand selected by using cluster random sampling technique. The instruments used for gathering data were 1) lesson plans of Frayer model instructional activities 2) English vocabulary test, used as a pretest and posttest, and 3) English reading comprehension test, used as a pretest and posttest. The data were analyzed by the mean, standard deviation and t-test dependent. The results of the study revealed that: 1) The processes of Frayer model instructional activities are: First, teacher distributes copies of the Frayer model which provided the lesson vocabulary. Second, students determine the definition. Third, teacher helps the students determine the characteristics of vocabulary. Fourth, teacher encourages students to generate their own examples and non-examples of vocabulary. 2) The student’s abilities in English vocabulary learning after studying Frayer model instructional activities was significantly higher at .05 level. 3) The student’s abilities in English reading comprehension after studying Frayer model instructional activities was significantly higher at .05 level.

การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) พัฒนากิจกรรมการเรียนการสอนแบบเฟรเยอร์ โมเดล 2) เปรียบเทียบความสามารถในการเรียนรู้คำศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 3 ก่อนและหลังการใช้กิจกรรมการเรียนการสอนแบบเฟรเยอร์ โมเดล 3) เปรียบเทียบความสามารถในการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 3 ก่อนและหลังการใช้กิจกรรมการเรียนการสอนแบบเฟรเยอร์ โมเดล กลุ่มตัวอย่าง คือ นักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 3 โรงเรียนเตรียมอุดมศึกษาพัฒนาการ เชียงราย ภาคเรียนที่ 2 ปีการศึกษา 2564 จำนวน 24 คน เลือกโดยวิธีการสุ่มแบบกลุ่ม เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยครั้งนี้ ได้แก่ 1) แผนกิจกรรมการเรียนการสอนแบบเฟรเยอร์ โมเดล 2) แบบทดสอบความสามารถในการเรียนรู้คำศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษ 3) ความสามารถในการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจ มีการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยการใช้ค่าเฉลี่ย ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน การทดสอบค่าทีแบบไม่เป็นอิสระต่อกัน ผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1) กิจกรรมการเรียนการสอนแบบเฟรเยอร์ โมเดลสามารถพัฒนาการเรียนรู้คำศัพท์และการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 3 มีขั้นตอนดังนี้ ขั้นที่ 1 ผู้สอนแจกสำเนาผังกราฟิกเฟรเยอร์ โมเดลที่ระบุคำศัพท์ให้ผู้เรียน ขั้นที่ 2 ผู้เรียนหาคำนิยามของคำศัพท์ ขั้นที่ 3 ผู้สอนช่วยผู้เรียนระบุลักษณะของคำศัพท์ และขั้นที่ 4 ผู้สอนกระตุ้นผู้เรียนให้ระบุสิ่งที่เป็นตัวอย่างและที่ไม่ใช่ตัวอย่างของคำศัพท์ 2) ความสามารถในการเรียนรู้คำศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 3 และ 3) ความสามารถในการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 3 หลังเรียนโดยใช้กิจกรรมการเรียนการสอนแบบเฟรเยอร์ โมเดล สูงขึ้นอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .05
