PREDICTORS OF PREVENTIVE BEHAVIORS FOR HAND FOOT MOUTH DISEASE AMONG PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS IN CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTERS IN CHIANG KHAM DISTRICT, PHAYAO PROVINCE

Abstract

The cross-sectional study aimed to study preventive behaviors for hand foot mouth disease and predictors of preventive behaviors for hand foot mouth disease among 330 parents and caregivers in child development centers in Chiang Kham district, Phayao province by using stratified sampling. The research instrument were questionnaires that passed the evaluation of the content validity (IOC) from the experts with the reliability of 0.62–0.85. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics consisted of frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, chi-square test, fisher’s exact test and Inference statistics consisted of Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis.

The results revealed that the preventive behavior for hand foot mouth disease of the sample group was at the high level or 96.40 %. The factors including age, income, and attitude towards which were associated with preventive behaviors for hand foot mouth disease could predict preventive behaviors for hand foot mouth disease for 4.5% at the statistically significant level (p < 0.05). The predictive equation was as follow: y = 58.028 + 0.061 (X1) + 7.072 (X2) - 0.078 (X3)

The result from this research can be used to apply for the organization of the educational program for the prevention of hand foot mouth disease with the involvement of parents and caregivers in childcare centers to reduce the risky behaviors and the awareness of the impacts of hand foot mouth disease effectively.

การวิจัยเชิงสำรวจแบบภาคตัดขวางนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาพฤติกรรมการป้องกันโรคมือเท้าปากและปัจจัยทำนายพฤติกรรมการป้องกันโรคมือเท้าปากของผู้ปกครองและผู้ดูแลเด็กในศูนย์พัฒนาเด็กเล็ก อำเภอเชียงคำ จังหวัดพะเยา จำนวน 330 คน ใช้การสุ่มตัวอย่างแบบชั้นภูมิ (Stratified sampling) เครื่องมือที่ใช้ ในการวิจัยเป็นแบบสอบถามซึ่งผ่านการตรวจสอบคุณภาพความตรงตามเนื้อหา (IOC) และมีค่าความเชื่อมั่น เท่ากับ 0.62–0.85 วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลด้วยสถิติเชิงพรรณา ได้แก่ การแจกแจงความถี่ ร้อยละ ค่าเฉลี่ย และ ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน และสถิติเชิงอนุมาน ได้แก่ การทดสอบไค-สแควร์ (Chi-square test) และ Fisher’s exact test สถิติสัมประสิทธิ์สหสัมพันธ์แบบเพียร์สัน (Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient) และสถิติวิเคราะห์ถดถอยพหุคูณแบบมีขั้นตอน (Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis)

ผลการวิจัยพบว่ากลุ่มตัวอย่างส่วนใหญ่มีพฤติกรรมการป้องกันโรคมือเท้าปาก อยู่ในระดับสูง ร้อยละ 96.40 ปัจจัยที่มีความสัมพันธ์กับพฤติกรรมการป้องกันโรคมือเท้าปาก ได้แก่ อายุ รายได้ต่อเดือน และทัศนคติต่อการป้องกันโรคมือเท้าปาก ซึ่งสามารถร่วมกันทำนายพฤติกรรมการป้องกันโรคมือเท้าปาก ได้ร้อยละ 4.5 อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ 0.05 สามารถสร้างสมการทำนายดังนี้ Y = 58.028 + 0.061 (X1) + 7.072 (X2) - 0.078 (X3)

ผลการวิจัยครั้งนี้สามารถนำข้อมูลที่ได้ไปประยุกต์ใช้ในการศึกษาเพื่อจัดโปรแกรมการป้องกัน โรคมือเท้าปากโดยการมีส่วนร่วมของผู้ปกครองและผู้ดูแลเด็กในศูนย์พัฒนาเด็กเล็ก ลดพฤติกรรมเสี่ยง และรับรู้ถึงผลกระทบจากโรคมือเท้าปากที่มีประสิทธิภาพต่อไป
