AN APPROACH TO THE DEVELOPMENT AND PROMOTION THE WORLD TOURISM HERITAGE SITE A CASE STUDY OF THE ANCIENT TOWN OF SI THEP AND ITS ASSOCIATED DVARAVATI MONUMENTS

Abstract

This research is a qualitative study with the objectives to: 1) study and explore the key tourism resources and attractions of the Ancient City of Si Thep 2) identify appropriate approaches for the development of tourism in the Ancient City of Si Thep 3) seek effective strategies for promoting tourism in the Ancient City of Si Thep 4) formulate sustainable conservation planning approaches for the Ancient City of Si Thep and 5) study the historical capital of the Ancient City of Si Thep and related Dvaravati-period archaeological sites. Data collection was conducted through documentary research, in-depth interviews with key informants from the government, private sector, academia, and local communities, as well as field surveys.

The research findings reveal that the Ancient City of Si Thep possesses outstanding tourism resources in the fields of history, archaeology, and culture, demonstrating great potential for sustainable development as a World Heritage tourist destination. Development approaches should emphasize the conservation of historical values alongside the enhancement of infrastructure and visitor services. Promotion strategies should focus on targeted and strategic public relations, empowering local communities as key stakeholders, and designing tourism experiences that reflect the cultural identity of the site. Conservation planning should adopt participatory principles and foster collaboration among all sectors. Furthermore, the study of historical capital highlights the cultural continuity and significance of the Ancient City of Si Thep as a former political, religious, and economic center, providing a robust foundation for future tourism development and conservation efforts.

การวิจัยครั้งนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) ศึกษาและสำรวจทรัพยากรการท่องเที่ยวที่มีความสำคัญและมีเสน่ห์ในการดึงดูดนักท่องเที่ยวของเมืองโบราณศรีเทพ 2) แสวงหาแนวทางในการพัฒนาการท่องเที่ยวเมืองโบราณศรีเทพอย่างเหมาะสม 3) แสวงหาแนวทางในการส่งเสริมการท่องเที่ยวเมืองโบราณศรีเทพให้เกิดประสิทธิภาพ 4) แสวงหาแนวทางในการวางแผนการอนุรักษ์เมืองโบราณศรีเทพอย่างยั่งยืน และ 5) ศึกษาทุนทางประวัติศาสตร์ของเมืองโบราณศรีเทพและโบราณสถานในสมัยทวารวดีที่เกี่ยวข้อง การเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลดำเนินการผ่านการศึกษาข้อมูลเอกสารที่เกี่ยวข้อง การสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกกับผู้ให้ข้อมูลหลักจากภาครัฐ ภาคเอกชน ภาควิชาการ และภาคชุมชน ตลอดจนการสำรวจภาคสนาม

ผลการวิจัยพบว่า เมืองโบราณศรีเทพมีทรัพยากรการท่องเที่ยวที่โดดเด่นในด้านประวัติศาสตร์ โบราณคดี และวัฒนธรรม ซึ่งมีศักยภาพในการพัฒนาเป็นแหล่งท่องเที่ยวเชิงมรดกโลกอย่างยั่งยืน แนวทางการพัฒนาควรให้ความสำคัญกับการอนุรักษ์คุณค่าทางประวัติศาสตร์ควบคู่กับการเสริมสร้างโครงสร้างพื้นฐานและบริการสำหรับนักท่องเที่ยวอย่างเหมาะสม แนวทางการส่งเสริมควรมุ่งเน้นการประชาสัมพันธ์อย่างมียุทธศาสตร์ การส่งเสริมบทบาทของชุมชนในฐานะเจ้าของพื้นที่ และการออกแบบประสบการณ์การท่องเที่ยวที่สอดคล้องกับอัตลักษณ์ทางวัฒนธรรม ขณะที่แนวทางการวางแผนอนุรักษ์ควรยึดหลักการอนุรักษ์อย่างมีส่วนร่วมและบูรณาการความร่วมมือจากทุกภาคส่วน ทั้งนี้ การศึกษาทุนทางประวัติศาสตร์สะท้อนให้เห็นถึงความต่อเนื่องทางวัฒนธรรมและความสำคัญของเมืองโบราณศรีเทพในฐานะศูนย์กลางทางการเมือง ศาสนา และเศรษฐกิจในอดีต ซึ่งสามารถนำมาประยุกต์ใช้เป็นพื้นฐานในการพัฒนาการท่องเที่ยวและการอนุรักษ์ในระยะยาวได้อย่างเหมาะสม
