DISCOURSES AND SPEECHES IN THAI OF THE LITERATI: THE THEMES AND COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES

Abstract

This research aims to synthesize discourses and speeches of the literati in Thai, focusing on the themes and communication strategies. The analysis was based on 30 selected speeches and discussions, using conceptual frameworks on content analysis, deductive and inductive reasoning, knowledge within and beyond the text, and knowledge synthesis through reading. The analysis of communication strategies employs concepts of rhetorical techniques, format and structure, content and presentation, and language use.

The findings are summarized as follows:

1. The Themes found that 1) the components of the speeches include the type and length of the speeches, introductory information, and the occasion or agenda for the speech. It found 24 (80%) were individual speeches— 15 were short and 9 long. The remaining 6 (20%) were group speeches, all of which were long; and 2) the content of the speeches revealed themes related to language and language use, regional dialects, and literature and literary works.

2. Communication Strategies found that 1) In terms of format and structure, the speeches employed formal language, informal language, and text-level discourse across four patterns: openings and closings, topic introduction and topic shift, referencing old and new content, and coherence mechanisms; 2) Regarding content and presentation strategies, two presentation styles were found: content with illustrative examples, and content with examples alongside references to other individuals’ statements; and 3) In terms of language use, the speeches demonstrated deliberate word choice, sentence construction according to communicative intent, use of paragraphs, rhetorical devices, figurative language, and linguistic style.

Discourses and Speeches in Thai of the Literati consistently reflect content related to the Thai language—its usage, literature, and literary works. The speeches are structured with an introduction, body, and conclusion, and employ words, sentences, paragraphs, and discourse as essential mechanisms of communication. These speeches are cohesively organized through communication strategies, reflecting the educators’ perspectives on language use.

การศึกษาครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อสังเคราะห์วาทการปาฐกถาภิปรายทางภาษาไทยของคุรุเมธาจารย์ 2 ด้าน ได้แก่ ด้านสารัตถะ และกลวิธีการสื่อสาร ข้อมูลที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์คือ บทปาฐกถาภิปรายทางภาษาไทยของคุรุเมธาจารย์ จำนวน 30 เรื่อง ด้านสารัตถะในบทปาฐกถาภิปราย ใช้แนวคิดสารัตถะ แนวคิดนิรนัยและอุปนัย แนวคิดความรู้ในและนอกตัวบท และแนวคิดการสังเคราะห์ความรู้จากการอ่าน ส่วนด้านกลวิธีการสื่อสารในบทปาฐกถาภิปราย ใช้แนวคิดกลวิธีการสื่อสาร แนวคิดรูปแบบและโครงสร้าง แนวคิดเนื้อหากับการนำเสนอ และแนวคิดการใช้ภาษา

ผลการวิจัยสรุปได้ดังนี้

1. ด้านสารัตถะ พบว่า 1) องค์ประกอบของบทปาฐกถาภิปราย ประกอบด้วย ประเภทและขนาดของบทปาฐกถาภิปราย ข้อมูลเบื้องต้นของบทปาฐกถาภิปราย วาระและโอกาสที่แสดงปาฐกถาภิปราย พบบทปาฐกถาภิปรายเดี่ยว จำนวน 24 เรื่อง คิดเป็นร้อยละ 80 จำแนกเป็น บทปาฐกถาภิปรายเดี่ยวขนาดสั้น 15 เรื่อง ปาฐกถาภิปรายเดี่ยวขนาดยาว 9 เรื่อง บทปาฐกถาภิปรายกลุ่ม 6 เรื่อง คิดเป็นร้อยละ 20 เป็นบทปาฐกถาภิปรายขนาดยาวทั้งหมด และ 2) สารัตถะของบทปาฐกถาภิปราย พบสารัตถะภาษาและการใช้ภาษา สารัตถะภาษาถิ่น และสารัตถะวรรณคดีและวรรณกรรม

2. ด้านกลวิธีสื่อสาร พบว่า 1) กลวิธีการสื่อสารด้านรูปแบบกับโครงสร้าง พบการใช้รูปแบบภาษาทางการ ภาษาไม่เป็นทางการ และภาษาระดับข้อความ 4 ประเภท คือ การเริ่มต้นและการลงท้าย การแสดงหัวเรื่องและการเปลี่ยนหัวเรื่อง การแสดงเนื้อหาเก่าและเนื้อหาใหม่ และ การเชื่อมโยงความ 2) กลวิธีการสื่อสารด้านเนื้อหากับกลวิธีการนำเสนอ พบการนำเสนอ 2 รูปแบบ คือ การนำเสนอเนื้อหาประกอบการยกตัวอย่าง และการนำเสนอเนื้อหาประกอบการยกตัวอย่างและการอ้างถึงข้อมูลจากบุคคลอื่น และ 3) กลวิธีการสื่อสารด้านการใช้ภาษา พบการใช้คำ การใช้ประโยคตามเจตนาการสื่อสาร การใช้ย่อหน้า การใช้โวหาร การใช้ภาพพจน์ การใช้ลีลาภาษา

บทปาฐกถาภิปรายทางภาษาไทยของคุรุเมธาจารย์ ล้วนปรากฏสารัตถะที่เกี่ยวกับภาษาไทย ด้านภาษาและการใช้ภาษา วรรณคดีและวรรณกรรม บทปาฐกถาภิปรายประกอบด้วยส่วนนำ ส่วนเนื้อเรื่อง และส่วนสรุป ผ่านคำ ประโยค ย่อหน้า และข้อความ ซึ่งเป็นกลไกที่สำคัญในการสื่อสาร และร้อยเรียงผ่านกลวิธีการสื่อสารอย่างสอดคล้องกัน โดยสะท้อนความคิดเรื่องการใช้ภาษาของคุรุเมธาจารย์ผ่านบทปาฐกถาภิปราย
