การศึกษาวิจัยครั้งนี้ เพื่อศึกษาสภาพปัญหาการลาออกการศึกษาของนิสิต มหาวิทยาลัยพะเยา และ เพื่อศึกษาแนวทางการแก้ไขปัญหาการลาออกการศึกษาของนิสิต มหาวิทยาลัยพะเยา ประชากรที่ใช้ในการศึกษา คือ นิสิตมหาวิทยาลัยพะเยา ที่ยื่นคำร้องลาออกการศึกษา มหาวิทยาลัยพะเยา จำนวน 268 คน ขอบเขตเนื้อหาที่ทำการศึกษา ได้แก่ สภาพปัญหาการลาออกการศึกษาของนิสิต เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการศึกษาเป็นแบบสอบถาม และแบบสัมภาษณ์ การวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลผลการศึกษา โดยการหาค่าความถี่ ค่าร้อยละ และส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน ผลการวิจัย พบว่า ในภาพรวมทั้ง 4 ด้าน พบว่า นิสิตมีความคิดเห็นต่อสภาพปัญหาการลาออกการศึกษาของนิสิต มหาวิทยาลัยพะเยามีค่าเฉลี่ยอยู่ในระดับปานกลาง เมื่อพิจารณาเป็นรายด้าน พบว่า ด้านอาจารย์/บุคลากร อยู่ในระดับมาก นอกนั้นอยู่ในระดับปานกลางทุกด้านโดยเรียงลำดับจากมากไปหาน้อย ดังนี้ ด้านการจัดการเรียนการสอน ด้านมหาวิทยาลัยและด้านนิสิต ตามลำดับ ด้านนิสิต โดยรวมมีค่าเฉลี่ยอยู่ในระดับปานกลาง เมื่อพิจารณาเป็นรายข้อพบว่า อยู่ในระดับปานกลางทุกข้อเช่นกัน โดยเรียงจากค่าเฉลี่ยจากมากไปหาน้อย ได้ดังนี้ ต้องการศึกษาในสถาบันการศึกษาอื่น การปรับตัวเข้าศึกษาในระดับมหาวิทยาลัย ผลการเรียนไม่ถึงเกณฑ์ที่มหาวิทยาลัยกำหนด ความพร้อมทางครอบครัวในการส่งเสริมสนับสนุน การศึกษาในสาขาวิชาที่ไม่ตรงกับความสนใจ ความพร้อมด้านการเงิน หลักสูตรสาขาวิชาที่เรียนไม่ตรงกับความถนัด ความพร้อมด้านสุขภาพกายและสุขภาพจิต และความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างเพื่อนร่วมสถาบันการศึกษา ตามลำดับ ด้านมหาวิทยาลัย โดยรวมมีค่าเฉลี่ยอยู่ในระดับปานกลาง เมื่อพิจารณาเป็นรายข้อพบว่า อยู่ในระดับปานกลางทุกข้อเช่นกัน โดยเรียงจากมากไปหาน้อย ดังนี้ สถานที่ตั้งของมหาวิทยาลัยอยู่ไกลบ้าน มหาวิทยาลัยมีกองทุนกู้ยืมเงินเพื่อการศึกษาจากรัฐบาลและกองทุนกู้ยืมฉุกเฉิน ด้านสาธารณูปโภค มหาวิทยาลัยไม่มีคุณภาพความเชื่อมั่นในคุณภาพทางการศึกษาของมหาวิทยาลัยความปลอดภัยในการใช้บริการรถรับส่งภายในมหาวิทยาลัยการบริการรถรับส่งภายในมหาวิทยาลัย บรรยากาศและสิ่งแวดล้อมภายในมหาวิทยาลัยที่เอื้อต่อการเรียนและการใช้ชีวิตและสิ่งอำนวยความสะดวกในมหาวิทยาลัย ตามลำดับ ด้านการจัดการเรียนการสอน โดยรวมมีค่าเฉลี่ยอยู่ในระดับ ปานกลาง เมื่อพิจารณาเป็นรายข้อ พบว่า มีค่าเฉลี่ยอยู่ในระดับปานกลางเช่นกัน โดยเรียงจากมากไปหาน้อย ดังนี้ สื่อการเรียนการสอนไม่เพียงพอ ไม่มีคุณภาพ อาทิ เช่น มีการชำรุดบ่อย แต่ไม่มีการบำรุงรักษา การนำเอกสารในปีที่ผ่านมาใช้ในการจัดการเรียนการสอน การมีส่วนร่วมในการจัดการเรียนรู้ และหลักสูตรสาขาวิชาที่เรียนสอนไม่ตรงกับความต้องการของตลาดแรงงาน ตามลำดับ และด้านอาจารย์/บุคลากร มีสภาพปัญหาการลาออกการศึกษา โดยรวมเฉลี่ยอยู่ในระดับมาก เมื่อพิจารณาเป็นรายข้อ พบว่า มีค่าเฉลี่ยอยู่ในระดับมาก 3 ข้อ เรียงจากมากไปหาน้อย ดังนี้ การให้บริการของบุคลากร รองลงมา คือ ความเอาใจใส่ดูแลของอาจารย์ที่ปรึกษา และการให้คำปรึกษาของคณาจารย์ นอกนั้นอยู่ในระดับปานกลาง เรียงจากมากไปหาน้อย ดังนี้ ความเอาใจใส่ด้านการเรียนของอาจารย์ผู้สอนต่อนิสิต ชื่อเสียงของอาจารย์ที่สอน ประสบการณ์ในการสอนของอาจารย์ผู้สอน เทคโนโลยีการถ่ายทอดความรู้ให้แก่นิสิต และคุณวุฒิของอาจารย์ผู้สอน ตามลำดับ
