A strategy to Develop Nakhon Nayok to Become a Destination for Sports Tourism in the Adventure Dimension

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to study the state, issues and obstacles of sports adventure tourism in Nakhon Nayok Province; 2) to evaluate the province’s potential in managing sports adventure tourism; 3) to study the behavior and needs of Thai adventure tourists visiting Nakhon Nayok Province; and 4) to propose a strategy for developing Nakhon Nayok Province into a destination for sports adventure tourism. The research was conducted using mixed methods. The qualitative data were collected from in-depth interviews with 15 government agencies, private organizations and scholars then content analysis and data triangulation were carried out. As for the quantitative data, a close-ended questionnaire was used to collect data from 400 Thai tourists who travelled to or participated in adventure activities in Nakhon Nayok Province. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, namely percentage, average and standard deviation. Inferential statistics, namely one-way ANOVA and Scheffe’s pairwise comparison, were used to report results with a significance level of 0.05.

The findings of the research were as follows. 1) The inadequate coverage of public transportation system and traffic problem due to excessive use of private vehicles caused great inconvenience for tourists without private vehicles. The obstacle was the lack of integration and aligned directions across government agencies. 2) The potential of sports adventure tourism lay in natural resources as tourist attractions, basic facilities and management, while accommodation, accessibility and activities needed improvement. 3) As for the behavior of tourists, the data collected from the questionnaire revealed statistically significant correlations with 0.05 significance level between personal factors, age and level of education, and the level of demand for sports adventure tourism, while different behaviors of sports adventure tourists did not influence the demand in any aspects. 4) The researcher performed SWOT and TOWS analyses then proposed a strategy for developing Nakhon Nayok Province into a destination for sports adventure tourism through the development of A3 P7 : Accessibility, Activities, Anticipation, Place (accommodation), People (service personnel), Policy, Plan (a clear and systematic plan), Promotion, Participation (having every party take important roles in the development) and Practice field for sports adventure activities.

งานวิจัยมีวัตถุประสงค์ 1) เพื่อศึกษาสภาพปัญหา และอุปสรรคของการท่องเที่ยวกีฬาเชิงผจญภัย จังหวัดนครนายก 2) เพื่อประเมินศักยภาพในการจัดการการท่องเที่ยวกีฬาเชิงผจญภัย จังหวัดนครนายก 3) เพื่อศึกษาพฤติกรรมของนักท่องเที่ยวผจญภัยในความต้องการการท่องเที่ยวกีฬาเชิงผจญภัย จังหวัดนครนายก 4) เพื่อเสนอแนะกลยุทธ์กลยุทธ์เพื่อพัฒนาจังหวัดนครนายกให้กลายเป็นจุดหมายปลายทางการท่องเที่ยวกีฬาเชิงผจญภัย การวิจัยครั้งนี้เป็นการวิจัยแบบผสมผสาน (Mixed Method) โดยการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ (Qualitative Research) ใช้การแบบสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกกับหน่วยงานภาครัฐ หน่วยงานเอกชน และนักวิชาการจำนวนรวม 15 คน วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลด้านเนื้อหา และการตรวจสอบแบบสามเส้า การวิจัยเชิงปริมาณ (Quantitative Research) ใช้แบบสอบถามปลายปิดเก็บข้อมูลจากกลุ่มประชากรตัวอย่าง นักท่องเที่ยวชาวไทยที่เดินทางท่องเที่ยวหรือเข้าร่วมกิจกรรมผจญภัย จังหวัดนครนายก รวมทั้งสิ้นจำนวน 400 คน วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลด้วยสถิติเชิงพรรณนา ได้แก่ ค่าร้อยละ ค่าเฉลี่ย และค่าส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน รายงานผลด้วยสถิติเชิงอ้างอิง (Inferential Statistics) สถิติทดสอบ One-way ANOVA เปรียบเทียบรายคู่วิธี Scheffe นัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ 0.05

ผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1) สภาพปัญหาการท่องเที่ยวกีฬาเชิงผจญภัยจังหวัดนครนายก ได้แก่ ระบบคมนาคมขนส่งสาธารณะไม่ทั่วถึง และปัญหาการจราจร เพราะการใช้ยานพาหนะส่วนตัวมักก่อความไม่สะดวกกับนักท่องเที่ยวที่ไม่มียานพาหนะส่วนตัว อุปสรรค คือ ขาดการทำงานแบบบูรณาการขาดเป้าหมายทิศทางที่สอดคล้องกันระหว่างหน่วยงาน 2) ศักยภาพท่องเที่ยวกีฬาเชิงผจญภัย ในด้านสิ่งดึงดูดใจ คือ ทรัพยากรธรรมชาติ ด้านสิ่งอำนวยความสะดวกขั้นพื้นฐาน ด้านการบริหารจัดการ ในขณะที่ศักยภาพด้านที่พัก ด้านการเข้าถึง และด้านกิจกรรมควรปรับปรุง 3) พฤติกรรมของนักท่องเที่ยว พบว่า ปัจจัยส่วนบุคคลที่ต่างกัน มีความแตกต่างต่อระดับความต้องการการบริการการท่องเที่ยวผจญภัยเชิงกีฬาจังหวัดนครนายก ในด้านอายุ และระดับการศึกษา ส่วนพฤติกรรมของนักท่องเที่ยวกีฬาเชิงผจญภัยที่ต่างกัน ไม่มีความแตกต่างต่อความต้องการการบริการการท่องเที่ยวกีฬาเชิงผจญภัยในทุกด้านอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ 0.05 และ 4) นำเสนอกลยุทธ์การพัฒนาจังหวัดนครนายกให้กลายเป็นจุดหมายปลายทางการท่องเที่ยวกีฬาเชิงผจญภัย ในรูปแบบโมเดล A3 P7 Paradigm ได้แก่ การเข้าถึง (Accessibility) กิจกรรม (Activity) ความคาดหวัง (Anticipation) พัฒนาธุรกิจที่พักแรม (Place) บุคลากรด้านการบริการ (People) พัฒนาการทำงาน (Policy) พัฒนาโครงสร้างแผนงานชัดเจนเป็นระบบ (Plan) พัฒนาสื่อการประชาสัมพันธ์ (Promotion) พัฒนาการทำงานโดยให้บทบาทสำคัญกับทุกฝ่าย (Participation) ส่งเสริมให้มีสนามฝึกซ้อมกิจกรรมกีฬาเชิงผจญภัย (Practice field)
